The Digital Nomad Visa (regulated by Spain's Startups Act, Law 28/2022) is the ideal pathway for professionals who work remotely. It allows you to live in Spain legally while working for companies or clients located outside the national territory, with an attractive special tax regime.

Who is this visa for?
It is designed for two profiles:
- Remote employees: staff of a foreign company who can perform their work remotely from Spain.
- Self-employed professionals (freelancers): contractors who provide services to companies located outside Spain, and who may also work for Spanish companies as long as it does not exceed 20% of their total activity.

Tax advantages
Those who obtain this visa can opt into the special regime for displaced workers (known as the "Beckham Law"): personal income tax at a flat rate of 24% on employment income up to €600,000 per year, during the year of arrival and the following five years.

📋 Requirements
- Not be a citizen of the EU, EEA or Switzerland
- An employment or professional relationship with companies outside Spain, with a minimum of 3 months before the application
- The company or companies must have a genuine activity of at least 1 year
- Prove that the work can be performed remotely
- Professional qualification: a university or higher vocational degree, or a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the sector
- Sufficient financial means: approximately 200% of the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI) for the applicant (additional amount per dependent family member)
- Health insurance (public or private) with full coverage in Spain
- No criminal record in Spain or in countries of residence over the last 5 years
- Not be listed as inadmissible nor be in Spain irregularly
- Pay the corresponding fee

General documents:
- Official application form
- Full copy of a valid passport
- Criminal record certificate from countries of residence over the last 5 years (apostilled and translated)
- Health insurance with coverage in Spain
- Proof of fee payment
Proof of work/professional activity:
- Employee: employment contract and a letter from the company authorising remote work from Spain
- Self-employed: commercial contracts with clients and proof of activity
- Documentation proving the company's seniority (at least 1 year of activity)
- Documentation proving the prior relationship of at least 3 months
Proof of qualification:
- University or higher vocational degree, or
- Documentation proving 3 years of professional experience
Proof of financial means:
- Bank statements, payslips or invoices showing sufficient income (≈200% of the SMI)
⏱️ Duration and renewal
- If the visa is requested at the consulate: initial validity of 1 year.
- If the residence authorisation is requested from within Spain: validity of up to 3 years, renewable for 2-year periods.
- Allows you to live and work in Spain and eases the path to long-term residence.
