Community Family Member Card: United in Europe
Your Family is European Too
If you are a European Union citizen and live in Spain, your direct family members (spouse, children, parents) have the right to live with you, even if they are not European. Community legislation protects family unity and facilitates their residence through a very advantageous special regime.

Extended Rights
The Residence Card of a Family Member of a Union Citizen is a 5-year residence authorization that allows working (as an employee and self-employed) on equal terms with Spaniards. It is, without a doubt, one of the best immigration permits available.

📋 Requirements
Who can apply: Family members of an EU/EEA/Switzerland citizen who are not nationals of a member state and who will reside with them for more than 3 months.
Beneficiary Family Members:
- Spouse (if there is no annulment/divorce).
- Registered domestic partner entered in a public registry.
- Children of the citizen or of the spouse/partner (under 21 years of age or dependent adults).
- Ascendants of the citizen or of the spouse/partner (living dependently).
- Extended Family: Other family members who prove they are dependent or have serious health reasons (requires exhaustive proof).
Requirements for the EU Citizen (the one granting the right):
- Reside legally in Spain (have an EU Registration Certificate).
- Have economic means and medical insurance (worker, student, or sufficient resources).
📄 Required Documentation
General Documents:
- Official application form EX-19.
- Valid passport of the non-EU family member.
- DNI/Passport and Registration Certificate (Green NIE) of the EU citizen.
Proof of Relationship:
- Marriage, domestic partnership, or birth certificate (as applicable).
- Important: Foreign documents must be legalized/apostilled and translated.
Proof of Means (of the EU citizen):
- Employment contract, payslips, self-employment registration, or bank certificate + medical insurance.
Proof of "Being Dependent" (if applicable):
- Money transfers (remittances) during the last year.
- Documentation proving that the family member has no own income in the country of origin and depends on the EU citizen.
