What it is
The technical name is visa or residence authorization for international telework. It is aimed at non-EU nationals who want to reside in Spain while working remotely through digital means for companies located outside Spain.
Who can apply
Employee
You work remotely for a foreign company. Employment activity must be for companies outside Spain.
Freelance / contractor
You provide services to foreign clients. Spanish clients may be allowed if they do not exceed 20% of total professional activity.
Main requirements
- Non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationality.
- Real foreign company activity for at least 1 year.
- Employment or professional relationship for at least 3 months before filing.
- Proof that the work can be performed remotely.
- Higher education qualification, higher vocational training or at least 3 years of professional experience.
- Criminal record certificates and valid health coverage.
- Sufficient financial means. In 2026 the main applicant reference is €2,442/month.
Duration and family
The consular visa may be granted for up to 1 year. The UGE residence authorization may be granted for up to 3 years and renewed for 2-year periods if requirements continue to be met. Family members may be included or joined later under Law 14/2013.
Tax note
The permit may open the door to Spain's impatriate tax regime, commonly known as the Beckham Law, but it is not automatic. Tax eligibility should be reviewed before filing.
